Exigent Health and Safety
REAC Inspections are performed in order to ensure that residents living in multifamily projects are provided with decent, safe, and sanitary housing.
If a REAC Inspection Summary report indicates any Exigent Health & Safety (EHS) issues present at the property, the Owner/Agent is required to submit a form to the local Multifamily Housing Field Office certifying that all EHS deficiencies have been corrected.
As part of REAC follow up, the CMS Compliance Team will obtain a copy of the owner’s certification and determine whether the EHS deficiencies have been corrected. For additional information regarding EH&S certification, please contact the REAC Technical Assistance Center (TAC) at 1(888) 245-4860.
