Scott Turner Sworn In as New Secretary of HUD

CMS is pleased to announce that Scott Turner, has been confirmed as the new Secretary of Housing and Urban Development (HUD). Secretary Turner took the oath of office Wednesday, February 5, 2025 following his Senate confirmation and now leads a department with a critical role in shaping housing policy across the country.

As the head of HUD, Secretary Turner oversees a range of programs and offices, including Community Planning and Development, Public and Indian Housing, Fair Housing and Equal Opportunity, Policy Development and Research, and the administration of rental assistance programs like PBRA and our PBCA program.

We welcome the opportunity to work with HUD’s new leadership in addressing key affordable housing challenges, including:

  • Reducing regulatory barriers to expand the preservation and development of affordable housing while promoting pathways to economic mobility for residents.
  • Supporting property owners and management agents in navigating through challenges like rising insurance costs, resident safety concerns, and outdated IT systems that impact program efficiency.
  • Advocating for a fair PBCA rebid, timely and sufficient funding for HUD’s rental assistance programs, and ensuring stability for residents and property owners.

Secretary Turner brings experience from his leadership in the White House Opportunity and Revitalization Council, his work as a housing development executive, and his tenure in the Texas State Legislature. We look forward to seeing how his leadership shapes HUD’s direction and the broader affordable housing landscape.

Our team remains committed to working with HUD and industry partners to ensure the success of the programs we administer. Thank you for all that you do to support our mission and the property owners, agents, and residents we serve.
